“South Uist” Premium Filled Cushion

This was painted whilst on the Outer Hebridean Isle of South Uist, my favourite of the Uists. The entire island was characterised for me by the machair (wild flowers) and the white sandy beaches that stretch for miles along the west coast. In summer the air all across the island is filled with a beautiful faint scent of flowery perfume from the machair. The outer Hebrides are incredible islands. The energy always has a huge effect on me, bringing out some very strong emotions. The islands are wild with an intoxicating mixture of rugged and smooth landscapes. Powder white beaches with turquoise crystal clear water, contrasted with dark, craggy mountains and cliffs (sometimes even red) and often crazy weather. It felt very untouched, untouristy (even in July) with such a feeling of space and light.
